4. Objectives

The objectives of the competition are:

- to promote and cultivate an appreciation for our Malaysian art; and

- to provide emerging talents with a platform to showcase their abilities to a wider audience.

5. Theme

The theme of this year’s competition is “Identity and Diversity” in which young and emerging artists will be given the opportunity to produce art that best interprets and conveys the theme of the competition.

Our theme explained:

Identity and Diversity" invites artists to explore and celebrate the myriad of ways people define themselves and their cultures in today’s global society. It encompasses personal identity, cultural heritage, and social influences, reflecting on how these aspects shape the individual and collective experiences. By focusing on this theme, the art competition encourages artists to delve into the rich tapestry of human backgrounds – highlighting personal narratives, cultural traditions, and social dynamics.

As this competition expands regionally, this theme promotes cross-cultural understanding and appreciation, showcasing the beauty and complexity of diverse identities and fostering a more inclusive world.

We look forward to welcoming your submissions. Upon submission, please provide a short artwork statement to explain/describe your artwork (not more than 200 words).

6. Submission Guidelines

Participants may submit their artwork in only one of the two categories, having a maximum of three (3) entries to the same category.

Participants should adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Artworks submitted must be original and should not have been created more than two years prior to the submission date.
  2. Participants should not submit works that have been offered for sale, published, or publicly exhibited.
  3. Artwork that touches on sensitive issues related to religion, race and monarchy will be rejected.

Please send us digital pictures/entries of your artwork before 23 February 2025 through the artwork submission link. The competition judges will shortlist the artworks that they would like to evaluate for prize consideration. The organiser will then contact the respective artist for submission of the actual artwork for judging.

All artwork submitted by students will be judged on a single national judging platform, regardless of the state of origin. Artworks will be judged based on these criteria: idea, creativity, composition and technique.

The national-level preliminary and final judging of artworks will be held at a venue to be decided.

The top 9 winning artworks in each category (Public and Educational Institutions) will then proceed to compete at a Regional Level. Winners at the Regional Level may receive prizes in addition to those already awarded.

Each educational institution may submit a maximum of 200 pieces of artwork for appraisal.

Judges will be appointed by the Organiser. The Judges' decisions shall be final and binding on all participants. No correspondence will be entered into on this subject before, during, and/or after the Competition.
