MR.DIY Donates 300k Face Masks to Public Services Frontliners in Fight Against COVID-19 Outbreak

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 April 2020 —
Home improvement retailer MR.DIY today made a donation of 300,000 3-ply face masks to public services on the front line in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The face masks, which the retailer sourced directly from China, are being distributed to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), hospitals and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, to assist their personnel in carrying out their duties. In addition to that, MR.DIY also made a contribution of 1,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) suits to six hospitals in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Kelantan — University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Buloh Hospital, Serdang Hospital, Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia and Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II.

Mr Adrian Ong, MR. D.I.Y. Group (M) Berhad Managing Director, said: “This contribution is a gesture of our goodwill and gratitude to the public services frontline staff who are diligently working in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia. We had sourced the face masks directly from China and, after they arrived in the country, we used our logistical teams and delivery fleet to transport the suits and face masks to the various recipients.”

“Our efforts are small compared to what these frontliners are dealing with on a daily basis. Nevertheless, we hope that with this humble contribution, they are well protected while on duty," Ong added.

A PDRM representative had extended a note of gratitude and thanks to MR.DIY for the supply of much-needed face masks, which would help protect police personnel working in the frontline of the Covid-19 outbreak.

This is not the first time that MR.DIY is stepping forward to support efforts to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. Earlier this year — starting from 30 January, the home- grown enterprise undertook a nationwide initiative to give out 3.5 million face masks to the public through its network of over 560 stores. Aside from addressing the demand for face masks, it was also done to raise awareness of other healthy practices to help curb the spread of illnesses.

MR.DIY is actively involved in providing help and support to those in need. Its collective spirit and generous efforts have contributed to the success of its corporate social responsibility programmes through its motto #mrdiycares. Its CSR efforts focus on three main pillars: Community, Environment and Workplace. Under Community, the retailer conducts activities towards boosting vocational training, and the promotion and development of art and culture, sports, and healthcare.
