MR.DIY takes its first-ever gold in the Putra Brand Awards

It’s a gold for MR D.I.Y Group at the 2021 edition of the Putra Brand Awards!  Malaysia’s largest home improvement retailer was recently accorded the accolade in the Award’s Retail Category, marking yet another major milestone for the brand.

Launched in 2010 by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) in association with Malaysia’s Most Valuable Brands (MMVB), the Putra Brand Awards is the only brand award voted by Malaysian consumers, utilising a robust consumer research methodology developed by a research partner. The 2021 awards, presented on 21 January 2022 at Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, were the result of votes by approximately 11,000 consumers across multiple categories.  Nominees in the various categories included ASTRO, Digi, Ikea, AEON, KFC, Watsons, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and 7-eleven, amongst others.

Receiving the award on behalf of the retailer was Alex Goh, Head of Marketing at MR D.I.Y. Group, who said, “This award is MR.DIY's first-ever from the Putra Brand Awards. What makes this award extra special is the fact that it is an award that is based solely on the outcome of votes cast by the Malaysian public.  It demonstrates that our ethos, which is to offer everyday essentials at “Always Low Prices”, continues to resonate with the rakyat, especially in these challenging times. This recognition will inspire us to bring this ethos to life in new and different ways in the future – that’s our commitment and our promise.”

He added that the Group had introduced several new concepts in recent years, including the MR.DIY Express retail store format, which was launched in 2021.

MR.DIY Express allows us to take our modern retail store concept to small towns and far flung communities, ensuring customers can shop for all their necessities in convenient locations, with comfortable shopping environments, and at very accessible prices. This, coupled with our many community outreach activities through the pandemic, has allowed us to support Malaysians in new and relevant ways.  This award is also not just about winning the popular vote; we should see it very much as recognition that we continue to do the right thing for Malaysians. Terima kasih to all those who voted for us,” added Goh.

Goh also thanked MR.DIY's employees who played a critical role in ensuring the retailer continued to serve its customers through the past two years, despite the pandemic, floods and other challenges.

“We couldn’t have done it without their passion, commitment and determination. This Gold in the Putra Brand Awards shines for all our 11,000-plus staff nationwide.”

In addition to keeping to its promise of “Always Low Prices”, the retailer has also committed to a nationwide “Price Lock: Harga Kami Tetap Sama” initiative. Under this initiative, the retailer has committed to not raising prices of all products across its three brands - MR.DIY, MR.TOY and MR.DOLLAR - until 31 March 2022.
