Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 14 July 2026 — As digital access becomes increasingly essential to education, Yayasan MR D.I.Y. is demonstrating how corporate resources can be repurposed for greater social impact. Following a successful joint handover on 1 July 2026 with community partner Soroptimist International Damansara to Sekolah Tunas Bakti, the Foundation has now refurbished and redistributed a total of 176 laptops previously used within MR D.I.Y.'s operations over the past two years. The ongoing programme empowers students with vital digital learning tools while simultaneously extending the lifespan of technology that might otherwise contribute to electronic waste.
The initiative reflects Yayasan MR D.I.Y.'s commitment to both digital inclusion and environmental sustainability, transforming retired corporate devices into valuable educational resources for students across Malaysia.
Over the course of the programme, the Foundation has distributed refurbished laptops to students from underserved communities across 20 schools in five states, providing access to technology that supports online learning, research, assignments, skills development, and digital literacy.
“Technology plays an increasingly important role in education, yet access to devices remains a challenge for some students and families. Through this initiative, we are not only helping students access the tools they need to learn and thrive in a digital environment, but also demonstrating how responsible reuse can create positive outcomes for both communities and the environment. Every refurbished laptop represents an opportunity to support a student's educational journey while reducing unnecessary waste,” said Dr. Zaleha Mohd Mydin, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MR D.I.Y.
To ensure quality and usability, each laptop undergoes a thorough refurbishment process by MR D.I.Y.’s IT department before being distributed to recipients identified through various collaborations with Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s community partners.

Since the programme began in March 2025, Yayasan MR D.I.Y. has contributed a total of 176 refurbished laptops, representing an estimated value of more than RM 300,000. The initiative has benefited more than 8,000 students and helped divert approximately 530 kg of electronic waste from disposal.
The programme forms part of Yayasan MR D.I.Y.'s broader efforts to create sustainable and meaningful impact through initiatives that support education, community well-being, and responsible environmental stewardship.
