DIY Made Simple 2025: Turning Waste into Energy for a Sustainable Future
Sekolah Menengah Setiabudi, Kuala Lumpur emerged as the champion of the DIY Made Simple 2025 competition with its innovative project Huzz Buzz, eco-tiles that capture kinetic energy from footsteps to generate electricity for small devices and school facilities. Beating 273 entries from 116 schools nationwide, the team’s achievement was celebrated at the Grand Finale in Kuala Lumpur.
Now in its ninth year, DIY Made Simple is an annual nationwide programme by Yayasan MR D.I.Y., in collaboration with Universiti Malaya and supported by the Ministry of Education, aimed at fostering student innovation and sustainability. This year’s theme, “Waste to Energy: Innovate for a Greener Future,” inspired projects turning waste into reusable energy sources, from bio-batteries and mini turbines to hydrogen production from wastewater.
